Columbus Signature Gathering Kick-Off

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Please join Nathan Runkle, Executive Director of Mercy For Animals, and Ohioans for Humane Farms at the Columbus Signature Gathering Kick-Off event to hear how YOU can get involved in this important campaign!

Ohioans for Humane Farms is spearheading a new, citizen-backed ballot initiative to prevent some of the cruelest factory farming practices in Ohio. The measure will require the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board to adopt certain minimum standards that will prevent animal cruelty, improve health and food safety, support family farms and safeguard the environment throughout the state of Ohio.

With more than 600,000 signatures needed to get on the ballot, we need the help of a lot of volunteers. While our opposition will have big money contributors and plenty of paid field staff, we're going to rely on you—our supporters—to help us get there.

For more information and to RSVP, please visit Ohioans For Humane Farms.

Where: Capital Area Humane Society, 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Court, Hilliard
When: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Here is a quick test:

          Do you think:
  • animals (including farm animals) have basic welfare and care laws that are upheld to protect them from cruelty, neglect and suffering?
  • because someone else is already involved, they don't need you?
  • you need to know the in's and out's of the legislative system to help create a law?
  • you need to have a lot extra time to make a difference?

Let's see how you scored.  If you answered "Yes" to any questions above, (sorry) you were wrong.

Getting involved can take as little or as much time you want to spend.  Here are some basic ways to make a huge difference.  Since the animals cannot speak they depend on you to speak for them.  If you are a registered voter- you have a loud voice.

It's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3

  1. Go to Find Your Elected Officials.
  2. Keep up with the issues.
  3. Make your voice heard & contact your elected representatives.  They want to hear from you.
  4. SIGN THE PETITION FOR House Bill 414!

Congratulations!
